Weirdest Beatles Song?
“We’ve just come across... the most weird song. I’ve no recollection of ever recording it.” George Harrison Anthology |
In January 1965 The Beatles needed a 'Ringo number' for their new album. George Martin found something that seemed usable, deep in the Abbey Road vaults.
This was a rough draft of an unfinished song. If You’ve Got Trouble. This had (tellingly) sunk in the sand on the lyrical front. ‘See you can do something with this,’ he suggested.
They recorded it in one session but on playback decided it was not good enough.
Ringo was then asked to choose a song to cover. He pulled on hiscowboy boots and went for Buck Owen's Act Naturally. This would prove one of the most enduring staples of the Ringo repertoire.
